November 12 Poem

He pressed his fingers against her lips,

and she read the words in his eyes,

don’t say anything, please.

He wanted to know what she was thinking,

but knew better than to let her speak.

She reached across and put her hand

on his chest and felt his heart throbbing.

She wanted him to know everything

but that faraway look in his eye

pinned her to the wall, crippling her,

and then the throbbing under her hand

stopped, skipped, then resumed it’s

low rhythmic pulsing. And looking

into his eyes she saw distant longing.
