Birthday Letters, by Ted Hughes

Deep, emotional poetry.

Deep, emotional poetry.

This is the book we decided on at our last meeting. I first read it more than a decade ago and was struck by the honesty and emotional depth of these poems. It loosely tells the story of British Poet Laureate, Ted Hughes, and his relationship with his American wife, Sylvia Plath, through poetry.

Here is a nice article about Plath, Hughes, and the Birthday Letters.

I recommend you also read some poems from Plath’s collection, Ariel. This is fine poetry.

Let’s meet on Thursday evening, April 10 at 8:30 pm.
