Book Selection for January 2012: Sugarhouse

I hope you had a nice holiday full of good reads. I managed to read a bit more than usual, 4-5 books in December. Of course, that all happened after I submitted my grades. Sorry I didn’t post this sooner. I guess I was distracted with the end of term and the holidays.

The book we decided on for our next meeting is Sugarhouse: Turning the Neighborhood Crack House into our Home Sweet Home by Matthew Batt. You can find it on Amazon; the BYU Bookstore probably has it as well.

It is a very interesting and entertaining read. Batt came to BYU in November and did a reading which I really enjoyed. I bought the book and read it in two days. It’s hilarious, well written, and I think it will be a welcome read after our last rather dense and difficult selection. He wrote the book when he was a Ph.D. student at the U of U. It is about fixing up an old house in the Sugarhouse neighborhood of Salt Lake City.

Let’s plan on meeting the week of January 21st, maybe the 23rd or 24th. It is not much time, but like I said, it is a quick read. For those of you in the area, you are welcome to borrow my copy; just let me know.

Matt
